SuperBrains Soirée

Learn how some brains stay healthy or even improve with age.  Gain a better understanding of the brains of people with extraordinary talents and abilities. Such knowledge may help direct the development of new treatments for diseases such as Alzheimer’s.  The SuperBrains Soirée is a community event showcasing some of the amazing research being done to highlight just how super the brain really is with featured speakers:

  • Dr. Emily Rogalski, Northwestern University /Super Aging: Lifestyle and demographic factors and neuroimaging findings of people who have aged unusually well without experiencing significant memory changes
  • Dr. Bob Bilder, UCLA/The Creative Brain: Underlying brain findings of people who are especially creative such as artists, actors, and musicians
  • Dr. Sarah Banks and Master Sommelier Jay James/Expertise, Wine and Your Ever Changing Brain:  Comparing the brains of Master Sommeliers and regular people for differences in brain activity while using their expertise. Research conducted right here at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health!
The results of these studies cast light on how passion, curiosity and hard work intersect to change the way our brains work well into adulthood. Our renowned speakers will reveal some of the marvels of the human brain, and are sure to provide an interesting and entertaining evening of learning. The night will conclude with a wine tasting led by sommeliers so that we can all understand the expert process they go through in judging wines.
